2B: Quilvio Javier-Pittsburgh

3B: Denny Chong-Detroit

LF: Nolan Cain-Pittsburgh

The History of the Texas Colts

Opey Higgins
Doubleday Daily

Arlington,TX

The Texas Colts originated in San Juan as the Cyclones in season 1 where they went just 46-116.. Players like Johnny Cambridge and Fritz Neugebauer were the only bright spots on the ML Roster. In season 2 the San Juan Cyclones found themselves improving but not much.. They managed to draft Rafael Seanez with the first overall pick which was a bright spot with the team moving forward..

However with the good draft pick they traded one of their only good players on the ML level, Cambridge for at the time High A level Ricardo Guardado.. Who? you say? Well exactly what I'm asking.. Guardado has done very little in the bigs since being promoted..

Season 3 the franchise took a new direction.. They moved to Jackson with new ownership and that was a pretty good move! They made several moves to improve the ML team.. However of all the moves the main one that they stuck with was the acquisition of Mariano Guerrero! Guerrero's first season with the franchise was dismal.. But he would eventually turn things around a bit. in the 3 seasons since he's hit 30,34,42 HR's and his average is considerably better than the .216 in the first season with the team. The team also benefitted, Winning it's first division title with the record of 92-70.

Season 4! Coming off the division title success and posting the teams best record in the history of the world they started seeing more success.. The ownership also kept making some more moves in hopes of improving. The draft helped them gain another decent prospect..Danny Torres drafted in the first round at pick 26. They also signed IFA Phil Hiro.. The team would again win 92 games and the division..

Season 5! Now moved from Jackson to Arlington,Texas ..The team again bought by another person! That was the start of the fall.. The team traded off 4 of its top ML stars in exchange for some depth... Nothing special...They went 79-83 and had appeared to not be improving despite drafting Benito Sanchez in the first round at pick 25..

Season 6 didn't hold anymore improvement for the team as they went 73-89 with an average draft class considering they had 3 first round picks.. It seemed like they were continuing to spiral out of control...

Season 7... New owner again and no trades have been made at this point. The draft was pretty successful drafting Patrick Flanagan with the 12th overall pick.. Currently 2nd place in the ML.. Needs to do some signing of Minor leaguers to help get his prospects in better shape..Other then that Texas may be on the way back up..

Quinn Street the new HR King?

Opey Higgins
Doubleday Daily

Salem,OR

Future star Quinn Street went into today's Home Run Derby as an underdog.. With guys like Albert Wall, Oswaldo Navarro and Erv Hines you'd think one of them was going to run away with it... Street's career single season HR mark is just 33 but today he beat everyone! This season may just be a turning point in Street's career and today this may have been what he needed to solidify himself in the world as one of Doubleday's more feared hitters.

Doubleday Hall of Fame!

Opey Higgins
Doubleday Daily

With the recent HBD forum discussion about the Hall of Fame I'd like to take time to recognize guys who are closing in on milestones....I've already made the 1,000 hits and K's club located on the left below the Single Season record holder list. I would like this to be discussed on the WC or Blog chat. I'd like to see everyone's point of view.

1. Luis Picasso : Retired/ Does Luis Picasso deserve to be part of the Doubleday Hall of Fame? 863 career hits and a .331 career average in 678 games. Picasso has 3 All Star appearances and 2 Silver Sluggers, 1 as a DH and 1 as a LF. Picasso only went to the playoffs 1 time where he played 15 games and posted .309BA, 3HR, 9RBI and a .433OBP. I'd like to say he will be remembered by all that started in Doubleday from the beginning as the first $100mil man. Vote Yes/No?

2. Homer Sandberg : Sandberg is the current career stolen base leader up by 40 over William Webster. Sandberg is 34 years old and has 542 stolen bases, 930 hits, .363OBP. Sandberg has 1 All Star appearance and has been to the playoffs 1 time posting a .043BA and 5sb in just 7 games. Sandberg has been considered one of the worlds better leadoff hitters early in his career when he scored 134 runs in season 1. Vote Yes/No?

3. Dan Hudler : Hudler has probably the best eye in Doubleday. He has been walked more times then anyone one in Doubleday history (635). Career numbers are .325BA, 1,126 Hits,.433OBP and 182HR. Hudler has 3 All Star appearances, 3 Silver Slugger and 2 MVP awards. He has been to the playoffs 5 times posting .308BA, 11HR and 32RBI in 45 games. Is Hudler a future Hall of Famer? Vote Yes/No?

4. Damion Mitchell Mitchell has been part of the Honolulu Franchise his entire career. Mitchell's career numbers are 55wins 49losses,3.17era, 1.24WHIP and .246OAV. Mitchell's numbers would not indicate that he really struggled in his career. In fact you could say he should have a better win/loss record. Mitchell has 1 career no-hitter and no All Star appearances. Mitchell has been to the playoffs one time and pitched in 2 games. In 12 playoff innings he went 0-1 with .186OAV and 3.00era. Vote Yes/No?

5. Albert O'Brien While everyone's talking about Maxwell, Wall and other players.. One guy who has been consistently doing his job and making everyone pay is O'Brien! O'Brien has posted .295BA, 812Hits, 177HR and .362OBP in just over 4 1/2 seasons. O'Brien has 3 All Star appearances, 2 Silver Slugger CF and 1 MVP award. He has been to the playoffs 1 time playing in 10 games putting up .282BA, 2HR, and 7RBI. Vote Yes/No?

Top 10 Season 7 Draft picks!

Opey Higgins
DOUBLEDAY DAILY

This list is going to be about the top 10 draft picks, not by draft order but by quality of pick.

1. Niko Barry (SP, COL)- Drafted in the #1 spot is Niko Barry! Colorado's first ever STUD! I'm sure next season a ton of people will try to steal Barry from Colorado but from what the Colorado owner said earlier this season he plans on building his future through the draft. Barry is a solid start!

2. Sherm Spence (CF, Sal)- Drafted #5 Sherm Spence is projected to be a friggin AMAZING Center Fielder! Questionable health but has awesome contact along with the ability to crush any LH pitcher around. He will be a huge threat when he's ready to play in the Bigs..

3. Sam Riske (P, ELP)- Drafted #8 , Riske is a steal! All around better pick than Banks at #2. Riske is among a nice group of young pitchers in El Paso and so long as they keep them in the system El Paso will have probably the best pitching at the ML level in about 3 seasons! Riske is going to be a superstar!

4. Ned Banks (P, Det)- Drafted #2, Banks looks to be just as amazing as Niko Barry.. Only a couple of differences.. Banks doesn't have the control or the stamina.. What he does have is the better pitches and close/equal splits. Banks is a great pick at #2!

5. Danny Donovan (LF, Van)- Drafted #3 by Vancouver.. Considering the amount of players drafted below Donovan this wasn't a bad pick. Donovan is super fast and has a great bat as well. He will get on very easy by either making contact or drawing the walk.. Once he's on, he's a threat to steal! Pretty good on the base paths so he could probably turn long singles to doubles with ease!

6. Demaso Trevino (P, TOL)- Words can't describe how great of a pick this is! At pick 11, Trevino may not have the stamina to go over maybe 6 innings but he has the potential to be a very big star! Great control and damn good splits! Very dominant vs. RH. Trevino is just awesome!

7. Birdie Price (LF, SF)- Price drafted at #16 is a steal! Price has great power, splits and eye! Very durable and decent health he appears to be the Pizzaro type that can play WAY more games.. Damn good pick!

8. Henry Corey (C/DH RIC)- Drafted at #25, Corey has a nice bat! Not much help in the NL so he'll probably be traded away by the time he's ready for the ML. Awesome eye and contact. Has pretty good power and about average splits. He still should be a pretty good DH in the future!

9. Mark Lim (P, Pitt) Drafted #22, Lim will be a pretty good Long Reliever! Great control and dominant vs. RHB. He has 2 good pitches as well, Lim is already surrounded by pretty good young talent and on his way up will wind up with a nice supporting cast.

10. Hugh Hawkins (2b, MON) Hawkins drafted 32nd has to prove this draft was DEEP! Hawkins possesses above average speed, contact, eye and not too bad splits. He will be relatively good at the ML Level considering the power loss that has occurred!
